I've noticed this before on eBay on many items ....margins are VERY tight ... sellers in China might make 10c profit on selling a pot .... So some sellers quadruple the price for the same item , profit $20 .... 99% of buyers won't bite , but they just need one person who doesn't know his way around , or may think high price =high quality

Now, now that isn't quite true. The government calls out their specifications for that toilet seat or coffee maker. Now if you want a toilet seat no problem but if you want a toilet seat which can survive a nuclear strike and still function after anyone who could use it is dead then we have a very, very expensive toilet seat. I worked with this nonsense for over 40 years of my life.

I was designing electronics for a satellite and went to see the QC guy about qualification for some 741 op amps. Normally we would purchase a single lot of commercial parts and "shake and bake" some of them to qualify the lot. However, this time he said we had inventory of 741s qualified for manned space flight and I could use those. They were over $65 a piece! Same parts but additional specification, inspection, sample testing and paperwork. That's one way to get a $75 toilet seat. That's OK. Job security for the QC guys.

But that's OK. You don't want to go into battle with just any toilet seat.

Yeah and all that testing. You want shake & bake no problem. Next thing we know a $25 dollar part is a $200 dollar part. :) Been there and done that. :)
