Thanks Wayne

I'm beginning to like this Neocities thing.

I will go as far as I can with it.

Really. It's got enough to keep me busy. I think.
Whatever you choose, it's a painful process to learn what you need. Just stay aware of the situation you're in and how ignorant you are. I mean no offense by that, just that you should allocate your time where it's useful and not get lost in the weeds. It's a problem we all face.

MS Word does not save to html5 standards. But, do whatever you want. It might be rendered properly in the current crop of browsers.

It rendered ok in my browser, but had five errors and one warning when checked against HTML 5.2.

You can use any number of free web design software out there.

Thank you Wayne and Joe

'Just stay aware of the situation you're in and how ignorant you are.'

No offense taken. That describes it! Ignorant about web page building and hosting options.

Did not get into it in the 90's or since then. Thrashed around with Wordpress a couple years ago.

Removed reference to specific webhoster.

No spammer here!

What do extra features mean in the long run?

I get the obvious ones like 'multiple websites'. Some of the others I am ignorant about.

See you tomorrow.

I do the following:

EasyPhP as a dev local server
PHP, HTML, and CSS

I dont bother with software since they never give full control. Plus, there is so much example code online you could just copy and paste.

Thank you Robin and Wayne

Looks like this html is the way to go.

I will become a supporting member on the webhosting place I like.

Okay.

Can create multiple websites.

One for mechanical/PIC projects and one for futurist ideas.

Will try to keep futurist stuff common sense not weird.

i hire some guys so they can create a website that meets all my needs
Wow, a full swing from "code it myself without buying software" to "pay someone to do it all". I'm not saying that's a bad decision at all, and it's probably a good idea, but I'm wondering how you made the leap.

Yes sort of. A website normally has a Home Page which can be an introductory page. Using what you just mentioned you could have for example www.myweb.com being your home page or call it a parent page. Below that page you can have sub webs or child pages. www.myweb.com\pic_projects or www.myweb.com\mechanical_projects. A Google of Web Structure will give you some ideas of what is involved but think of it as an organizational chart. I also used .com but today there are plenty of other suffix used, fro example .org
Common United States Domain Suffixes will give you an idea of what the is all about. All of your pages get linked and indexed.

Ron Thanks!

Figured out to just put projects I am working on currently on website.

Make the others 'Plans' being worked on in spare time.

Web hoster seems allow a whole bunch of separate sites.

You are saying make one the 'Master' with links to the other sites.

That's an idea.

Yes, your home page is a site index. Think the home page at the top of an organizational chart. That page will contain links to the pages under it or a web with sub webs. Matter of fact it is not unusual to have a home page reflect Index.html for the top or index page. What I am suggesting is something I mentioned already. Sit down with a nice clean blank sheet of paper and layout what you want. Make sure your pencil has an eraser. :)

Generally it is more about space used (actual data usage) than pages or sub sites. It is all space used on a server. While I still have two domains I have not really done much in years with them. Mostly files in storage now. Someday I need to sit down and clean up the mess I have out there. :)

I think the big thing with techies is 'Project' sites.

I have been looking at Parallax Ubicom Scenix SX sites.

Getting nowhere. Keep coming up with leftover Parallax SX Key programmer for $60.

I don't want to spend $60 on that!

A project site is simply a page or several pages within a web that tracks the progress of a project. Really doesn't matter what the project is be it something techie to growing potatoes. I have no clue what you are talking about with this:

The thread is titled website building so build a website. Just about every aspect has been addressed. Choose a provider and build a site but first, as was covered, decide what you want from a site. This all will keep returning to what you want?
