You are never too old to learn. Haven't you ever wondered by your solder is labeled Sn37Pb63 or similar? Why copper content is labeled Cu and so forth? You should read and understand the labels.
I think you either read Tony's question backwards. He asked how many know that without Looking it up. I said nearly everyone probably know without looking it up.

I followed up with, only pompous elitists think they get jokes that not everyone else gets when, in fact, nearly everyone got the joke.

Please read more carefully unless you were in the pompous elitist group and assumed only a small group got your original joke - which I now assume was the case.

@MrSalts

Sorry I misinterpreted your comment. Contronyms* can be confusing, like when someone replies , "Right!" Unfortunately, I tend to be more blunt. :)

*I don't know that there is a term for phrases, so I use the term loosely.

Contronyms*
Ok, I'll let you have that one! I had a suspicion what it meant but I needed to find an example so I looked it up. I can sanction that word. An equivalant phrase would be, thanks to Ed Asner in a Saturday Night Live sketch, would be, "you can't add too much water to a nuclear reactor".

"Sanction" is a good example. I suspect you used that word on purpose. Right? Right! RRRRight! and on and on. Google translate is no good for such things.

You have to understand mrbill. He doesn't read the whole thread, he saw the word "printer", and thought he knew what was being talked about.
That is quite enough of throwing stones, shortbus!
I did read the thread, and I have been reading threads since it was pointed out that I had missed stuff.
AND in this case I was commenting that even a good deal may not be so good if the materials needed are way expensive. And certainly some 3D printer materials are expensive.
The fact that you do not understand a comment does not make the comment wrong, just because you do not get the relationship.

To equate the cost of ink to the cost of filament is ridiculous.
Yes, I agree. All of the DIY 3D printers that we'd discuss here are filament types. I haven't seen anyone try to sell non-standard size filament for a non-standard size filament print-head. There is just too much competition and low barriers of entry at this point to do that successfully. A company may have tried, but they are surely bankrupt by now because consumers have standardized options in the market.

The printer makers taught us well about what to look out for. I know they thought they were getting away with murder but there are consequences.
I'm still buying Gillette Fusion Proglide 5-blade cartridges at $3 each for the "free" razor handle I got with a coupon. Some companies are still getting away with it. Interesting that the same word, cartridge, is used for printer consumables and razors. "Cartridge" must mean, "your getting screwed," in some foreign language.

Guess I gotta take over the household shopping. Wife doesn't look for this kind of deal. I have one fresh blade left.

[edit] wait! Do you mean $3 for EACH RAZOR? 16 razor's for $48 (US Dollars)? I'm not seeing anything CLOSE to $3.00 for a pack of razors, let alone 16 razors.

I’m pretty sure that’s what he means. I used to pay ~$30 for 6 razor cartridges. $5 per cartridge.

Then I grew a beard.

Sucker for marketing. ;) I am still using the Track II I went to college with. It is getting harder to find blades, but I still have some in my stash. I got that when shaving blades became Mach 3. Way to fast for my shaving needs.

If you want to save a bit, take a look at this system:
https://www.amazon.com/Dorco-Plus-B...=1&keywords=dorco+razor&qid=1610479307&sr=8-5
The Gillette Fusion is the best out there, and you can get them for about $2 each at Costco. But I got tired of the handle changing every few years and found an alternative in Dorco. I got refill blades for about $1 each. A tiny bit less great than the Gillette, but still very good.

My wife bought a big card of blades for me in February. She thought we better stock up since everyone was buying up all of the personal hygiene supplies. I've shaved one time since. I look like Grizzly Adams - before someone did his hair and makeup out in the wilderness.

I quote a MAD MAGAZINE ad parody from many years ago: "Her guys whiskers do not phase her, since he uses an electric razor, Why bother with Burma Shave."
A decent electric shaver is far more cost effective, with the large added benefit that I can shave without being totally awake yet. $100 for 2000 shaves is a much better price.

I use maybe 3 cartridges in a year, about $5 worth. I don’t buy stuff that requires a 20-year payback period.
