I think I need a 1000 AH 12v battery for a 24 hour mobile surveillance.

Please can someone verify the info?

1x mobile dvr @ 3amps
4x 1080p cameras at 2amps

Total: 11amps per hour

Rate of discharge

C= 11 amps * 24 hour = 264 AH
C’ = 264 AH / 0.8 = 330 AH
C’‘= 330 /.5 = 660 AH

Thus a 12v 660 Ah rated battery should be sufficient for the task. Thus buying a 1000AH battery would be sufficient overkill correct?

Your calculation appears to be the Ah required to operate the system for 2 days between charges, allowing for some margin.

1,000Ah is quite a capacity, a large 12V vehicle battery might have a rating of 70Ah, requiring 14 of such batteries.

One other observation, I suspect you quoted current draw are the equipment ratings, which may very well be over speced against the actual current draw; therefore I’d recommend you measure the current draw of each item – you might find you can reduce your Ah rating of the battery.

You could consider something like this:-

You really do not want to ask a battery (Sealed Lead Acid) to deliver current in excess of its amp hour rating divided by ten. With that in mind a 1,000 AH battery would deliver 100 Amps for ten hours, 50 Amps for 20 hours and 25 Amps for 40 hours. Those are rough numbers and depending on battery quality may or may not hold true. A 1,000 AH 12 volt battery is one very large and very, very heavy battery.

Something you need to consider is using this battery as an example: Deka 12-Volt 1,000-Amp Marine Battery. The reality is when they rate batteries they like to use big numbers. The battery linked is a battery having 1,000 Reference Crank Amps-32 degrees F (Amps) with cold cranking amps defined as the number of amps a lead acid battery can deliver for 30 seconds and maintain 1.2 volts per cell at 32 degrees F (0 degrees C).

Even if you go with a Lithium battery pack a 12 volt 1,000 AH lithium battery pack weighs in right around 286 Lbs (170 kg). All you need is about a 300 AH 12 volt battery. That will give you 15 Amps over 20 hours.

<EDIT> I see as I slowly typed Hymie covered things well. :) </EDIT>

Something doesn't sound right here .... 4 cameras shouldn't require Half a tonne of lead acid to run for 2 days...lol

Should be closer to half a kilo ....

The calculation is correct , but I suspect figures of 2A for a camera is wrong ... If not , it will be cheaper to buy new cameras with lower consumption than buy the battery you need for your current ones .

I'm no expert on this , but do people still use DVR s ? I would imagine the latest cameras are very small , very cheap , stand alone items that run for days on one charge , and transmit feed over the mobile phone network to you at home on your computer , your computer can store the feed for later reference.

The step number 1 - dig the 10x10x10 meter hole with excavator and order the full trailer with beton to pour the walls.
Step number 2 - fill that monster with car batteries, dont forget about ventilation holes
But if seriously, just throw out the circuit drinking the energy more violently like the batallion of horses.
Substitute it with circuit demanding a microamp and being capable to work a hundred years from one small watch battery.
By the way, if 2 Ams are the goal, probably may use the combinated wind mill plus solar cell plus small accu solution. Then probably one large tractor battery of 100-130 Ah will happen be enough??
