I'm trying to fix an old Technics music amplifier from the 80s.

I need to replace a transistor (Matsushita I think) which has markings B941 Q 70. See attached.

I can find replacement vintage B941 Q but they have a different suffix e.g 3N, but no 70.

Is the suffix important here, can I use the 3N?

The Q 70 indicates the hfe or DC gain. 70-150
There's a P version also with higher gain 120 -250
Don't know what 3N means or if it's important.
Where are you finding this replacement at?

TS said B941.

 

2N and 3N were American JEDEC-registered transistors.
This is Japanese, most likely it follows the JIS semiconductor designation.
Google the term.

 

The "2S" is never printed on the transistor, so what you have is a 2SB941.
2SB are all PNP.
Is this it?

 

The transistor sub book indicates a 2SB1015 is a direct substitution. I have 100s of these in stock if you need a few. Send me a direct message.
