That forecast is almost as boring as Palm Springs'

One of the things I like about the Midwest is our weather changes day-to-day, sometimes hour-to-hour. When my wife and I visited London some years ago, we used to laugh about the weather forecasts there. It was either rain and clouds or clouds and rain, every day. This is the current outlook from the BBC:
Outlook for Saturday to Monday
Saturday will remain largely dry with light winds and sunny spells, although an isolated shower or two could develop in the afternoon. A dry night will follow, while Sunday should be a warmer day with hazy sunshine giving way to outbreaks of showery rain from the north-west. Monday will be a touch breezier and cooler, with scattered showers moving in from the west.
If you hit Cleveland in the afternoon and are thirsty, set your GPS for Great Lakes Brewing. It's in what is called the "flats," which is an old warehouse section being renewed. GLB has a nice pub for sampling it various brews ( 2516 Market Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44113, https://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/brewpub ).

In other news, I'm now committed to taking the northern route back home: just made hotel reservations in Medford, OR, The Dalles, OR and Boise, ID.

At the moment I'm waiting for my son to wake up and call me to come over to his place. Then he and his GF and I will figure out what to do today...
Glad you are going to do the northern route. Some incredibly nice scenery to take in. :) That means more pictures on the return. Now just enjoy your time there and enjoy family company.

That sounds really tempting if I end up taking I-80 back from Chicago...

Had a good hike today at Rancho San Antonio, probably about 4 miles which was about all these non-hiking shoes would allow. , Encountered bunches of lizards, wild turkeys and deer along the way, plus the barnyard animals at the farm in the park. Didn't come across the mountain lion, though.

Had lunch afterward, and sat and chatted awhile over coffee. Now I'm back in the hotel resting up, then we're all meeting up for dinner at 7:00.

Life is good.

Yeah, if you stop in Cleveland I'll join you at Great Lakes Brewing. :)

Glad you are already enjoying your time. :)

That sure sounds like a plan...
When I go to LI NY it's about an 8 - 9 hour run from here in Cleveland to about 25 miles out on LI. So if you do stop for the day in Cleveland you are looking at about maybe 8 hours to Philadelphia give or take a little. So if you call it a day around here we could catch dinner and The Great Lakes Brewery, actually we have a few good breweries around here. :)

Headed out toward the Dalles myself. The gorge is supposed to be beautiful.

.Why not head more north and hit Glacier?

If you have a bike ride in you. This is up that way too. A bit closer to Spokane.

It looks like from Cleveland to home is a tad bit under 7 hours, via I-480, I-80 and I-76.

One scenario for the trip puts me overnighting in Cleveland on the night of June 4-5. If it looks like that's going to pan out I'll get in touch.

EDIT: That scenario would also put me in @wayneh's area sometime on the morning of 6/4, if he'd like to get together.

The visit continues. Kid + GF + I had lunch here, had a jalapeno cheddar grilled cheese sandwich that was to die for, then went off to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, which was fascinating. After that we took a short walk at the Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto. Bright sunshiny day, but windy and chilly.

This first pic was taken from out on the end of the boardwalk at Baylands, looking out over the south end of San Francisco bay toward the mountains behind San Jose. The second pic is of me (the short guy in the blue shirt) and the Kid.
