Time for a Road Trip

Glad you could go to the CHM. I find it hard to not tell people about the one I had just like it when I’m there. Baylands is just a sad echo of a great drag strip out in the bay. Back when you could show there on Saturday morning and after a quick tech show your stuff. Nowadays there’s bike races around the business parks. Every week they’ve got new names. Sigh.

One scenario for the trip puts me overnighting in Cleveland on the night of June 4-5. If it looks like that's going to pan out I'll get in touch.
That would be cool, we will just see how it plays out. If it looks like it will happen shoot me a PM and we can make a plan.

I know it might not be possible to change you room dates but an extra day (in Newport or Lincoln City) for a Oregon coast route would be very scenic if you can make the change. The direct I-5 valley route is quick but boring.

I've been on that stretch of the coastal highway, back in 2002 when my son and I went up to see Mt. St. Helens. We went up there via I-5 but returned back to the SF Bay area via US 101 and hugged the coast as much as we could. Wonderful trip.

Great. Another possibility is a short side trip off I-5 to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum from Salem. That's worth leaving a little early in the morning to have some extra time there.

My kids gave me this one, but it doesn't hold water on this site.
I know what you mean-- and how often I'm tempted to say exactly that to someone. We can explain it to them, but we can't understand it for them; they have to do that themselves, and sometimes they don't want to do the mental work required.

Oh, well.

Beautiful sunny day here in Silicon Valley. Waiting for my son to call/text me to let me know its time for me to come on over to his place and start the day. My internal body clock is still on East Coast time, so I've been up since 5:30 PDT. It's been a long morning...

Had a good time yesterday. It was bright and sunny, clear and cool, so Son and I drove up US 101 toward San Francisco, crossed the Dumbarton Bridge over to the East side of the bay and spent the day hiking at Coyote Hills Regional Park. Got a dandy sunburn along with sore legs and feet, but it's all good.

Not sure what we'll do today, as it looks like rain. Once Son's GF returns from visiting her parents in Modesto I'm sure we'll figure something out, though...

Here's a pic taken on one of the hiking paths, looking out over the southern SF Bay with the Santa Cruz mountains in the distance.

I must have rode right by this place on my way to McMinville on my bicycle tour of the Oregon coast. I did not know it was there till later. I even had a host in McMinville that night that gave me a boring our of his town. You think he would have said "Hey we have the Spruce Goose in town,. You want to see it"? Nope nothing. I must have taken 99W into town because I don't actually remember going by it.

If you have the time consider U.S. Route 2 along the Canadian border. It's the most non-stop scenic trip I've ever taken.

I couldn't agree more with your attitude about flying these days. Flying use to be part of a trip and now a trip starts when the flying ends and ends when the flying begins again. Getting to Europe by ship is better than flying any day. Trains have their share of TSA nonsense also but comfort of trains beat flying.

Tomorrow I start my trip back home. :(

I figure to be in Medford, OR tomorrow night and The Dalles the following night.
