Time for a Road Trip

My longest segment for the upcoming trip is 9 hours with two main drivers. We plan to enjoy the drive, not grind it out. The last trip out that way we did 12+ hours from Portland to Provo Utah as the first leg. Everything past Ogden was a blur that day.

What were you doing in Provo Utah, where the heck were you going? I grew up there, I live in Orem I-15 is a mess, they keep adding lanes and it still doesn't ease the pains. People keep moving here but there is no infrastructure to accommodate the volume. It really pisses me off when the Highway Patrol throttle the traffic, it's always after American Fork and Pleasant Grove, I don't see the reasons for it. I finally seen the Highway Patrol on the off ramp with his lights on coming back from the Airport he was signaling the truckers to slow down and almost stop, it's so annoying.

It's like driving in Seattle, we have one main road going North and South, Mountains on one side and the Utah Lake on the other, I feel like I could make money opening a Ferry Service. They keep saying we need a road across the Lake but they won't, it would harm the "June Sucker" a Native Fish. The lake really needs to be Dredged so we can get Trout back in the lake, they say back before the Mormons it was clear blue with fresh water, now it's brown with Catfish and Carp, screw the June Sucker go plant them somewhere else I say.

We need more roads going East and West

Sorry,
kv

Clear skies ahead.
Clear now, though this morning between Terre Haute and St. Louis it was mostly rain. Not heavy nor steady, just enough of a PITA to require turning the windshield wipers on and off constantly.

Traffic was light early, about what you'd expect for a Sunday morning. But St. Louis traffic was heavy, so was Kansas City. But once I got past Topeka it all thinned out bigtime. Western Kansas is almost entirely empty, and so are the roads.

So here I am in Hays, Kansas, out on the ass end of nowhere 1360 miles from where I started yesterday morning and 670 miles from where I holed up last night. Long day. Tomorrow I go the last 160 miles of Kansas and cross the state of Colorado to Grand Junction. Not quite as long a trip as the last two days, so I'll have some time to stop and sightsee and take some pretty pictures.

Now to relax...

It's a week of rain here, off and on type. Bring your umbrella, hey once you make it to Grand Junction there is a great Mexican restaurant up by the hotels with a goofy name.

They have a Swiss Elk Enchilada type Burrito couldn't find it on the Web Menu:mad:. Hopefully they do because the meat melts in your mouth.

They do have Buffalo Burritos, a little pricey but very good. It's near the hotels could be the reason why it's so expensive. South West type food and seasoning, for a one off I liked it.

Stay safe,

Have a great trip.
The photo of the road is good. Reminds me a bit of the wide open of Washington state.
Have you ever thought of a road trip down here across Oz?
Only problem is the long plane trip, but it is a lot quicker than it used to be.
Just think of the fun you could have driving on the "wrong" side of the road ;)

Thanks! I'm looking forward to going over the Rockies tomorrow, especially the drive down through Glenwood Canyon.

I'd love to visit Australia, also New Zealand and Iceland. But OBW don't fly. Period. Too many close calls, including a runway incursion while landing that came within about 10 feet of turning into another Tenerife disaster. :(

LOL!!! Nice to think about, probably not so nice in practice... :D

I once drove all the way from here to Grand Rapids, Michigan. And I can tell you that Texas is one big, flat and monotonous patch of land... as soon as you cross into Oklahoma everything changes and the landscape becomes as beautiful as it gets.

Two years ago, on my previous cross-country road trip, I drove westward across Texas on I-10 and I have to agree. My first hint of what was to come was when I entered from Louisiana and I saw the first mile marker: "MILE 874." The Big Bend country was nice, but the rest of it was a whole lotta nothin'.

Also, I managed to time things so I would go through Houston right smack-dab in the middle of morning rush hour. That certainly added some spice to my day...

Now that you mention it, I remember that time took me about 7 hours just to drive through Dallas - Ft Worth ... that place is in a permanent, 24 hr rush hour... if patience is a skill, that experience definitely turned me into an expert.

Provo was just a stop on the way to Vegas. Got some food for the family, a nights sleep and then on to Sin City down I-15 to see my mom and sisters family. My longest solo trip was a motorcycle (Hand built Honda CB750 chop) ride from Key West to San Diego with a long stop in Dallas, TX to see my folks in 79.

Long ride on a bike, real long ride. :) Been looking around at some of the old Honda CB 750 bikes, I had one in the mid 70s and wouldn't mind getting another.

So, OBW where art thou today, Monday the 20th say of May 2019? Hope the cruise is going along well. I like the updates. :)
