Anyone else heard this in the commercial for an upcoming TV program about the conspiracies surrounding if the moon landings were staged or if they actually happened?

I've enjoyed the different arguments that have been made about the landings and how they've been debunked but this reasoning takes the cake for ignorance. I looked it up and the electric toaster was invented in Scotland, in 1893 by Alan MacMasters. The first countertop microwave oven became available from Amana in 1967, two years before the first moon landing.

I can't help but wonder how many people will hear this toaster nonsense and adopt it as fact?

What exactly is the connection between toasters, ovens, and moon landings? Your original post was less than clear on this point. I'm not sure who you think is ignorant and why.

Now I'm pretty sure you can get there by ticking off the enabling technologies that led to that spectacular achievement. Would that be a difficult enterprise?

I just want to know if we can claim the Moon? Didn't Americans put men on the Moon first. Would that make them or us Mooners:p

Can't do that. The "Outer Space Treaty" signed more than 50 years ago prevents that.

The news must have reached Utah in that time period, especially since there was a major contractor (Morton Thiokol) in Ogden Utah from 1929 to 2007

I have not heard of this series, but conspiracy theories abound. Face it, people like them. They like the idea that they are part of a small minority that knows the TRUTH. Facts, critical thinking and objectivity are nothing but inconveniences.

Indeed it did. I was a kid on vacation with my family in a motel near Salt Lake City, on the night of the moon landing. We watched the SAME image of the shadow of the LEM for hours on a small black and white TV in the room. We were tired and it was both boring and exhilarating at the same time. I can see it like it was yesterday.

"First Man" is worth watching but doesn't quite put you there into that place and time.

Soviet officials didn't make any hoax claims in the height of the Cold War. They never said a word despite having a huge propaganda incentive to prove it was faked. They had the capability and the national security requirement to watch our every move during the moon program.

But see, you are trying to use critical thinking here...logic...objective evaluations...facts and so on - these are incompatible with conspiracy theories - get with the program! ;)

In the commercial a conspiracy theorist seems to make the argument that we couldn't have landed on the moon in 1969 since the technology of the time was the toaster. Conspiracy theorists or not, I think anyone who thinks the height of technology in 1969 was a toaster is ignorant.

No kidding. Our technology was weaker then but our will and resolve were far superior to the politically correct wussification of the intervening decades. I know now why old people get grumpy.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. Rocket technology was a big enabler. Those guys stood on the shoulders of giants.

What the conspiracists don’t account for us that much of technology in the 50s-60s wasn’t public knowledge.

The first SSI ICs were in use by the Air Force in the early 60s, having been developed in the 50s. The computers in the early NASA space ships were hand-wired NOR gates on an SSI IC.

This technology (as well as others) were completely hidden from the public as they were considered covered under national security.

But today, we know better.

And it would be an obvious forgery!
Why? Think about it, the Templar's were active against Islam during the Crusades. What is the symbol on the Islamic flag? The crescent moon. So the Islamic tribes must have owned the moon, the Templar's stole the deed when they were there and hid it on Oak Island. Makes perfect sense to me. All of this time people thought it was the Menorah or Ark of the Covenant and they were looking for the wrong thing.

Truly you posses an active imagination. Sadly, your credibility appears -- wanting!
Good job missing the tornado though.
