The presence of a man-made object carefully placed on the surface of the moon would be definite proof of a manned landing. I'm not saying the landing was fake, I'm just asking what would be the hard proof that the public could actually verify through first hand observation.
Why would the presence of a man-made object carefully placed on the surface of the moon be definite proof of a manned landing there?

By that reasoning, we have"proof" that we've made manned landings not only on the moon, but on Mars, Venus, Titan, and a few asteroids and comets.

There are currently Soviet-era retroreflectors on the moon placed by two of their landers and soon there will be more -- in fact one of them launched just a few hours ago.

95% of NASA personnel would believe it happened ....

But this is missing the point , you don't have to accept 'anecdotal information' or believe anyone ... the information is all out there ...

True scientists would relish the challenge of examining the information for themselves and getting to the truth ... The first obstacle is even considering the idea that it could have been faked ...

It's all on Youtube
True scientists have been verifying NASA's account independently for about five decades now.

And the guys who sent them to the moon were circus clowns dressed up as scientists??? That was a lot of money to spend on a circus act!

Why would you want to stop this thread? I want to hear the evidence, from the people that profess it.

No one is forced to read this thread. No one is forced to believe. Why are you so intolerant?

Just change channels.

Peace sibling.

How about other way around? Prove that it was faked! I for one would be more than happy to consider the prospect provided enough compelling evidence was there. That said, over the past few days I've read and watched quite a bit from that angle. Still haven't seen anything close to convincing though...

It is impossible to provide evidence for someone that is unwilling to accept it and that can go for either side.
True, people do tend to be very one-sided in their arguments and opinions. Precisely why it's so important to keep an open mind and focus on facts, not speculation. (The latter can still be useful to a limited degree of course).

The sad thing is that many just automatically jump into one camp or another based on the nut/sheeple dichotomy: those who abhor conspiracy theories onto one side and those who relish in them, the other.

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has taken a number of high resolution pictures of Apollo artifacts, but you'd have to believe that NASA has the LRO in lunar orbit before you could believe that the pictures could be real. From an altitude of 15-30 miles, they can get detailed pictures of objects that can't be seen from Earth.

The Russians know Apollo landed on the moon. They had the ability to track them.

I agree
Yes please show me proof it didn't happen. And didn't they just run a series about "The Truth Behind the Moon Landing" and they put all the conspiracy theories to rest.

With a focus on the thread Title and only the thread title:
The genius of Apollo

Yeah there was quite a bit of genius involved. Sitting here it's hard to believe 50 years have elapsed since the lunar landing. When President John F. Kennedy stood before the US congress in 1961 and proposed this I was 11 years old. What I remember even more vividly was October of 1957 when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik the first artificial satellite put in space and orbiting the earth. I remember neighbors in the back yards talking about it and looking upwards. It was like someone let the air out of the US. I remember my father tuning his ham radio receiver so we could listen to the beep, beep, beep of a satellite about the size of a beach ball when its orbit took it close enough to us. The space race was off and running. Then came Sputnik 2 a short time later.

Growing up LI NY most of the dads of the time worked for Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage, LINY. These guys were the Long Islanders who helped take America to the moon. These guys built the LEM. Following the lunar landing and a safe return to earth I really enjoyed my conversations with my neighbor who worked on that project. He shared with me how nervous everyone was throughout the entire flight. While everything pointed to it should work there was always some doubt as to a what if. It was amazing the Appolo 13 mission ever made it back.

Today it is hard to believe 50 years have passed since then. I was 19 years old and just beginning my life. Today as I type this my 15 year old granddaughter, up for a week visit, is napping on the couch so I guess 50 years have passed. I have older grand kids too.

Yeah, it was pure genius which got us there and back combined with a lot of sweat. There were also those who lost their lives in pursuit of space going back to Appolo 1. Good things never come cheap I guess.

Not to pull age on you... Some old guys (my father's age) and I had been flying buddies since 1953. We were driving back from flying our primitive RC models when our Vanguard rocket crashed.* What a downer. They were ex-AAF pilots. Thankfully the program was transferred to NASA and succeeded. This week has been a time of very fond memories.

John

*We flew very early morning as our models were more like "radio assist" free flight than today's radio control.

Moon landing hoaxers, flat earthers, alien abductors and visitors, religious nutters, UFO chasers, anti vaxxers, anti evolutionists! Is there any conspiracy theory that I've missed. America seems to breed them all. Must be something in the air or education system.

Its the CHEMTRAILS!

Seems like the best targets to me... Even so there would be no "smart" people to them. Probably would look at all of us similar to the way we look at rats. If we even get that much credit.
