Certainly cleaning off a bit of the coating and splicing on another wire will require both PATIENCE and a bit of skill, but it is by no means that difficult. BUT after the attachment is made, preventing a repeated break will require a bit of effort, and probably a bit of glue, so that the failure does not repeat.

 

Problem is the wires were double-wound, 2 wires at a time. One of the wires broke off in the crevice between the coils, so I can't even get to it. I'd have to unwind the upper coil. I guess since its pretty much toast I'd have nothing to lose by unwinding it/rewinding it. I'd probably find some way to destroy it further though, I have a talent for rendering things completely unusable while trying to fix them.
