SOT-23 and SOT-23A - how are they different?

I'm working on a PCB design that requires a compact voltage regulator, and the MCP1703 seems to be what I need. I'm looking at the SOT-23A package, and I'm not sure if there's any major differences between that and SOT-23. I'm mostly wondering if they can both use the same PCB footprint.

Before anybody asks, yes, I've Googled it, but to no avail.

Microchip only offers SOT23A. You'll have to find a part with SOT-23 part number an. Compare recommended footprint on the datasheets.

There is no footprint difference in either, Microchip call their Sot23-3 Sot23a, same dimensions on the pcb, there maybe a diagonal chip on one edge of the component to help identify a pin.
