How does the split rings move to force the induced ac voltage to turn into dc in the external circuit? Does the conducting cylinder (with insulator in the middle) turns 180 degree to make sure brush no. 1 stays with the positive segment which is segment 'b' ? If so, how is the generator built in such a way that when the coil is about to change direction (i.e. when emf = 0) the cylinder rotates 180 degree? How do they build the instrument in that fashion?
