I am trying to design a robot shovel attached to a moving mini robot. It will scoop material i.e. sand, snow from point A and dump it to point B @ 10' away. Not sure how to start. Any ideas appreciated - thanks

Maybe first describe your abilities might be prudent, have you done any
electrical/electronic/microprocessor work ? Is this a personal project or
for sale as a commercial product. Have you done any programnming ?

Regards, Dana.

Your question needs furthur clarification, like -

1) Size/weight/load of shovel tool
2) Target size of vehicle
3) Articulating shovel arm motion specs
4) Vision recognition required
5) Battery run time and energy specs
6) Driven treads or move by shovel
7) Ambient temp range in use
8) Control remote or preprogrammed/autonomous

Just a few to get started.

Regards, Dana.

How about a rectangular box, open at the top, with a switchable latched flap on the ends.....that will only flap inwards on scoops and hauling.......and flap outwards for dumping while quickly zero turning. And two independent tank tracks on each long side of box for said turning.

Edit: the flaps pivot at the top.

Ok....before suggesting anything let's see if I can picture what you are doing. The most important thing is gona be the media. Does the media change? Can media be both sand or snow?

Second.....what is the geometry of the environment? Is the supply pile contained in an area?(a crib for instance)....or just a pile on flat surface?

And the dumping area.......any slopes/edges available for assisted dumping?

Need to know the whole setup. And see what's available to take advantage of. I beleive in simple. So will try to consider a non articulated shovel first. But it will depend environmental orientation and situation.

And then there is the propulsion. But I think we should determine the articulation necessity first.

I could have mis-understood you.....and you might already have a robot and were just looking for shovel.

Have you a video or youtube similar to the action you want? And can I assume that you have built robots before?

Thanks for replying.
Think of it as a snow shovel which traverses a driveway width while picking up snow and dumping it to 1 side. I have developed the robot that will traverse the driveway width but am stuck now with the shovel part.

I am glad to here that you are a roboteer. It's good to have at least one person who knows what they're talking about. I never built a robot. But have integrated a few systems. I youtubed robot snow shovel and there were many results.

I am a firm believer in plagiarism........saves time from repeating mistakes.

I'm sure they have run into problems we haven't heard of.
