Ripple Factor (or Form Factor) calculation

The equation for Ripple factor is:

Ripple Factor = Vrms / Vdc
This outputs an infinity Ripple Factor for a sine wave.

But according to Basic AC Theory, they say: "Average (practical, not algebraic)".

Thus the equation should be:

Ripple Factor = Vrms / Varv
This results in the same Ripple Factor for both a pure sine wave and a rectified sine wave which creates a conflict - a really poor rectifier with a pure sine wave and a rectified sine wave has the same Ripple Factor ?!

Thus I have been trying to look for an official definition (not Wikipedia) and failed.

Can anyone refer me to an official source stating that Ripple Factor uses the ARV and not the "Algebraic average" ?
