I had a question regarding residential surge protector power strips. Since they are usually designed with MOVs tied between the hot and ground wires, once it's plugged in, would this not also allow any surge on the entire branch circuit and associated regular wall receptacles similar protection?

 

Up to a point but for fast spikes the inductance of the wires will limit the protection.
