Computer CRTs had to meet higher resolution requirements that television needed for television at the time,, and that was one are of intense competition. Color CRTs had sever problems getting the electrons through the shadow mask to land right on the corresponding color phosphor dots which plagued CRT manufacturers and display manufacturers with screen uniformity problems, not that LCDs didn't their challenges too. A CRT production line might cost many tens of millions of US dollars (but not in the U.S. where they were no longer made) but LCD production lines were hundreds of millions or billions and were a 20 year struggle to get from concept to production of really good looking consumer priced displays.

One reason CRTs will not be back is that since about 2000 most of the key figures in the development of color CRTs have retired and sadly many have died. To restart the process would take many years of heavy investment in developing new techniques that will never pay off because CRTs are too far behind LCDs now and would still not be competitive.

The 2004 Society for Information Display International Symposium CRT subcommittee. These were and are amazing and really nice people from around the world, but most are gone now.

Oh.... Yes.

Even the Chinese and Russians no longer make CRT's because the technology and market is dead. Tube sound, tube image aficionados are a very very small market today. There are plenty of NOS CRT's in warehouses to keep them happy at a premium price.

I had a fondness for HD CRT displays in the day.

but we've moved on from the old JVC sitting in the cabinet designed for it (that TV was very heavy), to something better.

It looks great, I guess this can't be found anywhere in my area.
This made me remember that there was another consumer TV brand that could compete with Sony, but I can't recall which, they have a really big black 4:3 TV, perhaps it was Mitsubishi too.
@DickCappels Accidently found the video of the TV that I was talking about:

MX4000.

I remember them. They made over-priced, over-styled CRT A/V products.

Seems CRT lust can be come an obsession.
I just want to build a gamehouse (some kind of cybercafé) and separate a room just for retrogaming and let kids and grownups play, kids will get to know what we got to know back in the 80's, 90's and 2000's, grownups will just cry. lol

That's fine but I'd rather they play outside like most kids did back them.
