Those are called Chachalacas, and they're noisy and annoying scavengers. They normally hang out in gangs, and can be as large as a small turkey, although they're perfectly capable of flight. I'll ask my wife to take a picture of them when they're roaming in my backyard when she can.

When birds do that my Granddaughter once said their having a meeting. But, I think their planning a hit on the cat.

It is a .22. I bought it for my daughter a few years ago but she doesn't have much interest in shooting now.

Good point. I will add some practical points to my periodic in-house gun training: guns are not to be used when you are emotionally compromised. Let Dexter, I mean Daddy, handle such things.

I'm not sure you have to lock up the items that would get a laugh - I remember the Tree Stooges had a clay planter in one of their bits. You will be ok with a clay planter sans trigger lock.
