I agree. 5 kW is an awfully high power level for a first design of just about anything. You might consider starting with something closer to what's in all of the datasheets and app notes, like 1 kW, and put multiple units in parallel to get your final power value. More expensive in production, but more reliable; and much less expensive to develop.

Also, there are PFC devices you can purchase from Lambda, Vicor, SynQor, etc. These can be paralleled up to your power level. Before my first discrete PFC design, I did a 6 kW front end with six 1500 W Lambda bricks in parallel. N+2 redundant power and cooling in a 2U box.
