Exposed pads (EP) are usually to dissipate heat. You may note in any application description adding vias to the EP. For a crystal, its purpose may be slightly different, this is, to form an isothermal area. Are there the usual two connections for the crystal? I assume that to be the case.

but i am told by somebody to suppress the noise .

If grounded, it might help with noise. Certainly the datasheet gives a recommendation, However, remember, crystals require just a tiny bit of noise to start. Have you ever had a crystal that needed a slight touch on the case to get it started? I have.
