I just want to thank all the people who offered advice, .......... I ended up contacting an oscilloscope engineer at Owon in Asia. It ends up that it was a firmware issue. He sent me the update, I uploaded it and the scope is working fine. Good that new firmware fixed it however putting something to market with such an obvious flaw doesn't show OWON in a good light.
