There are valuable lessons in that post. I guess the "old guy" got tired of building the antenna's and the youngsters never thought to capture the techniques used by the him. The "new guy" who builds fantastic anteannae from the jpg's missed some important details.

Arrogance of the poster reminded me of some of what we saw years ago in the homework section.

I was going to make this one all about 'freewheeling' diodes, but I couldn't draw them riding Harleys the way I'd have expected them to :)

I was thinking of one the other day about resistors - kind of like a dartboard with a wirewound ceramic hitting the outer ring (5%) then a few others nearing the nearing the centre; 2%, 1% and a premium 0.1% precision resistor in the bulls-eye :)

10% and 20% - this is true. I could do the 10% resistor right on the edge of the target, and the 20% just outside :)

Hmmm, the new barbell shape could be considered having a small waist, while the old cylinders don't. Male and female?

What would you do with a variable?
How about something with a current feed into the wiper terminal and the two ends having a tug-of-war to see which end gets the most "juice".

I hope there are some instructors to see nbw's stuff and ask if they can use them as an intro slide to a lecture or two ... I personally think they are great.

That's a good point about the variable resistor - the tug-o-war is a good way of resolving that issue :)

If anyone out there knows of any instructors, or faculties that might like to use a design or two, just let me know. I'd be happy to help out. I wouldn't charge for it, just ask that a link to my blog or site be included. I tend to put 1-2 new designs up there each week, and later in the year am going to make a book of a couple of hundred. Projects, kids, and life permitting!

p.s. this one is a trans-gendered nunific component. Special emphasis on the hairy legs :)!

The last time I smoked pot was when I applied 12 volts to a sensor for a cruise control. The pot was supposed to be getting milliamps from the processor chip and the battery volts let the smoke out in less than a second!
