Hi, i have a fairly unusual project. i am customising a dlp projector with a (tbd) 365-400nm high power LED source, color wheel removed. . this will be used to sequentially illuminate (i dont need sharp images) a series of objects hung from a ceiling. i would like to lightly coat these objects with something that will fluoresce as strongly as possible under the uv. i assume the phosphor used in COB leds would be ideal since it certainly pumps out light when illuminated by near UV.

however its proving hard to source in Europe. ive seen a couple of lab supply companies, but their prices are extreme.

ive found suppliers on Aiibaba in china, but the minimum orders are 100g+ and 100+ euros. i need a small amount to test, and if it works, a slightly larger amount for the actual project. anyone know anything?

Contact a promising vendor and arrange for a sample, they are usually very ready to help. They will often even help with selection and other advice. If the first is not amenable, try others—someone will work for a sale.

This is also this less technical source that might be sufficient.

You might want to look into electroluminescent lighting. It can provide very bright light similar to UV-lit, without the need for a UV light source. It has the downside of needing a specialized power supply but it's not bad and I think it looks really cool. Start here if you're interested:

i have played with EL stuff before. my issue here is i have been tasked with illuminating a load of bottles (already present) hanging from the ceiling in a bar, in a "unique" way, ideally animatable in some sense. but the latest curveball (which meant i had to throw out all my quite developed and cool ideas) is i cant do anything permanent and i cant run wiring. which kinda limits things!

been thinking about lasers and projectors etc, but

a) lasers risk bounding all over the place and blinding people and

b) a projector, even a chunky one, wont illuminate a bottle very much. so that led me to this random idea of modding a projector to emit UV, and adding some fluorescence to the bottles.

could be cool but there are a lot of unknowns. (namely will a dlp projector modded with a 100w UV led emit enough light, in a sharp enough pattern to give a dramatic effect?, i know that people who mod leds into normal dlp projectors often have issues with low brightness since the led is not a nice point light source like the original lamps.. i dont heed high definition, a blob of light on each bottle would be enough, but it does need to be strong enough)

anyway i found a phosphor supplier in the UK who is willing to send me some UV phosphor samples.

UV stickers might be an easy way to add fluorescence to any surface. I gave my granddaughter a bunch of stickers and tattoos to use with her UV flashlight. Good fun.
