Hi Guys, super noob here.

I aws able to damage the mother board on a HP 600 G4 SFF, it seems that what I popped out was a capacitor or resistor, the first picture is the missing part and the second picture is the part on another board. Just wondering what is that piece so i could try to buy one and if i'm crazy enough... try to solder it.

PS, after that, all USB ports in the back stopped working, and only the USB C and one USB A works in the front.

any help is welcome.

Cheers.

Welcome to AAC!

The first question: Does the board work without the component?

It looks like a power supply decoupling capacitor to an absent component. If that is the case, the board should still work without it.

Edit: I did no see the information that was added after I had written this.

It looks like a capacitor, but there's no way to tell what it's value is or what it's purpose it. Depending on purpose, the value might not matter a whole lot, or it might be pretty critical.

You might dismount the capacitor on the board that has it (if you're willing to accept the risk) and measure it.

All good.. board works. Only USB ports are not getting power.

I think that considering my skills, I'll be safer by buying a used computer on ebay and just replace the board, saw a few in rough shape externally but working condition. Enough for a low offer to stick.

Thank you guys!

If you have a capacitance meter, you can measure the value from the good board. I tried to find the circuit diagram of HP G4 SFF motherboard but could not find any. Capacitor value can't be said seeing with bare eyes if there is no marking on its body.
