Hi all - busy putting together parts for a diy crank polisher like these. Some have literally cobbled them together using circular saws, but curious what light weight med torque motor options i have? dont want anything too heavy of course - ordered 3 from amazon but they all are either too heavy or too light. variable speed wd be nice too.

ill be running off 110v, and dont mind having a separate speed controller although id prefer an all in one- ac, dc? watts? etc -

I did buy this motor and will test it later.

 

I would seem to me that You would not want a Gear-Reduction-Motor,
but rather a high-RPM, AC/DC-Series-Wound-Brushed-Motor.

You may be able to adapt a "Shop-Vac" Motor, and they're cheap.
It is also easy to control the speed on these types of Motors.

correct. Well now after doing alot of comparing- the DC motors are great but the 110 to 24dc power supplies are rather large. Since the lathe is running i dont think sound is a factor, so now im thinking of buying an old junk 110v tool (drill or something) and ripping the motor out of it.. i think 1000-2000rpm wd be good enough..
