Crass question from the peanut gallery. Have you ever licked a 9 volt battery to test it? some sort of redundancy in the current limiting of the circuit would be a good thing.

hi wayneh.
sorry for the long absence. work tears me away from the human race occasionally and my computer giving up the smoke right before i left didn't help either.

as for the multi layer i was thinking more i terms of the tongue electrode. it is 9x16 terminals so im not sure how i would construct that with only one layer. and as you pointed out it cant have any nasty stuff in it as it will be in the mouth and potentially electrolizing.

Hi there Nathan,

First time here on AOC forums but I wanted to give a reply.

I am also interested in constructing my own "PONS" device to directly emulate the nearly exact specifications of the yet-to-be-released device. I also have a medical condition, and believe it's truly just cruel due to regulation that we can't have access to the device. You are correct, they said they'd have it done back in 2015. We'll be lucky if we have it by 2020.

I am trying my best to find a way to construct my own as well. My knowledge of electrical engineering is not the greatest, I have tried to learn as much as I can from my father (has a master's in EE), but I myself am only a software engineer.

I have searched far and wide to try and get schematics for the real device. I am sure the parts required must be obtainable, and with 3D printing (available on demand no less, don't even need to own a printer), and a plethora of parts and materials available online, I'm a significant believer that it's possible to construct this device before it comes out.

If you could contact me with any information you have compiled thus far in addition to what you have in this thread, I would be highly grateful. Similar to you, I am just trying to construct my own device for personal use.

I am simply concerned that I must have it directly match the specifications of the device itself; this would be the exact technology used in the studies surrounding this device.

Thanks

Another thought too, I thought I'd mention,

Is that a unit similar to the pons
(Mentioned at the bottom of this pons article here:
https://tcnl.bme.wisc.edu/projects/completed/pons)

Is the TDU, tongue display unit. I'm sure you may be familiar, as I saw you had pictures of the electrodes in a previous post.

If the PONS was unachievable, the TDU may be easier to emulate, and offer similar stimulation, yet easier to be made portable due to today's technology (was originally made in 1990s), even DIY technology.

There is a significant amount of technical specification on the TDU, including information on circuit composition, located here:
