MC2100 treadmill motor control circuit

I have an MC2100ELS-18W control board, and the most common issue I face is overspeed. Most of the time when I try to repair it, I find a burnt-out IGBT or sometimes the IGBT gate driver IC. Even after replacing both components, the control board still doesn’t work properly.

  1. It burns out the IGBT again, or
  2. It cannot vary the speed properly — for example, when it’s set to 6 km/h, it runs at 12 km/h instead.

Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?

Did you try adjusting the preset speed pot on the main board?
Yess I tried it and i changed it as well.
it did happen that if I do have the variation speed problem on one machine and I tried it on another machine, it works fine..I’m not sure what’s the problem with the machine because wo do not have anything else in the machine just a filter.

Hi you are the best and very helpful. I seen your reply from 2012 till now you helping people. I am nil and have no clue about schematics and readings, i have Mc2100els-18w board. Can you please check #245 post and let me know in easy language please. D1 diode is short and STR is heating up. Where can i buy D1. What readings i have to look in to. Will appreciate your help. Thanks

I want to replace D1 and D8. I have no clue what name part to search for. Shall i take them out and then post pics or numbers written on them? Or you can tell me without taking them out. I am good in soldering but not a proper technician.

Hello everyone! I bought a faulty Domyos TC-5 treadmill (220VAC European version), which has the same controller unit (U-MC2100ELS-18w), and a 130VDC, 2.8hp, 1939W motor. The board and the motor were faulty too. On the board I need to replaced the IGBT and the Q3 thyristor also. The board is OK now, but I only had a 180VDC 2hp replacement motor for the treadmill. After reassembly I try out the speed calibration, but due to the 180VDC motor, the treadmill only goes 11.2KM/h insted of 16KM/h (the max speed potentiometer was on the max setting). There is any hack to use this contoller board with an 180VDC motor, or I need to find a 130VDC version. I have the attached menu options in the service menu, maybe it helps a little. Thanks for your help! Regards, István
Hello,
Have you found a solution?

A modest contribution regarding MC2100 malfunctions. You absolutely must check the no-load current of your motors; it must not exceed 0.25A. Any value above this will cause another malfunction of the MC2100. Next, you must determine why the motor is faulty: Does the belt need replacing? (increased friction forces) Are the roller bearings worn? Has the running belt been regularly lubricated? Is the deck in good condition?

Thanks to whoever posted the schematic. I had an issue with a similar board MC5100DTS-50W (Nordic Track X9i) and it was helpful to diagnose a problem. Everything on the treadmill worked except the motor wouldn't run. It turned out that L1 was damaged (open circuit). On the MC5100DTS it doesn't use the 10V zener (D8) to generate the lower voltage DC signal. It uses a switching circuit that L1 is a part of.

Also one of the 1000uF 200V capacitors was swollen so I'm replacing that as well.

I know it's quite a long time since your post, but do you have the value of L1 on a MC5100-50 w ? Mine is damaged and I can't find any information on it.

Thanks

The member posted only once in 2018. It is very unlikely that we will hear from him again.

Where is L1 on your board?
On other boards, L1, 5.5 mH is in series with the motor.

Do you have a screen shot of the device and/or board?

Here is the picture of the board with the L1 just on left side of the U13.
As I understand, the L1 is part of a system which gives a low DC to the main IC, but oscillo shows me a peaking (but with a very regular period) tension instead of a regulated flat one. I try to figure out why it happens.
I have the PWM signal from HD2 to the opto and then to IC but the led is still on and the motor doesnt start.

Where are you supplying the PWM from, the TM console? or an external source?
Does the controller IC have the correct power?
Yes I still use the console.
The IC has a very strange power, like 0v for 95% of time and then a 5V spike. Very regular, but it should be a flat 5V.
