1) I would choose to buy a new one, not "have to".
2) New devices are often larger in batt capacity, so it could be the case that the old wart is just a 27w PD but new device really needs 60w or 100w wart to charge "fast", hence you have to buy new.

If you connect two USB-C PD supplied together with a USB-C to USB-C cable, prepared to ne bored and underwhelmed. What happens? NOTHING. Both identify as a supply and neither as a consumer, so neither supplies power.

It's almost like the designers considered the possible problems.
Are all warts that have C port the PD types?

You are still saying USB C "on both sides". Just what does that mean? The standard is ONLY about the USB C connector on the phone. ONLY ON THE PHONE.
A cable has two sides, the cable attaches two things (two sides) together.
C spec says a cable can only be Cmale on both sides of the cable.

You don't need to force devices to be C port to use C-PD, Lightning to C works just fine. Yes, that iPhone cable is just for Lightning devices. So what.

Well if you bought a 100 watt charger to begin with you would not need to buy a new one :)
But at least all phones will have the same charging port connector.

As I said before though, time will tell if it makes a difference. There are many factors to consider, including the motivation and financial background of the would-be buyer. We'll just have to wait a while to see how this pans out. Did they make a standard that doesn't actually do anything? We know the people who make standards don't seem to know what they are doing sometimes anyway.

This is a technical excitation induced onto large number of biological entities (namely human) and that means the system will have feedback based partly on the needs and decisions of the biological entities, and I don't think we have an equation (yet) to describe this system adequately. The makers of the standards think they do, so let's see what happens.

I have many batt devices, phones, flashlights, fake candles, sound speakers, etc etc, they are not all the same, some micro, some mini, some A, some Lightning. They all do however plug into USB-C wart for charging.

If I have 5 cables and keep all 5 for my devices, why is that any different than having 5 C-C cables? There is no diff.

The mandate is silly, it solves no problem.

I am not totally against your ideas on this, but I still think we have to wait before we make any long term decisions. This is still a new thing, and it's too hard to predict what will come of it. I think there are three possible outcomes with pseudo predictor expressions:
1. It make things better: y(t,n)=y(t,0)+f(t,m) (in some way, notably e-waste).
2. Things stay the same: y(t,n)=y(t,0)
3. Things get worse: y(t,n)=y(t,0)-f(t,m)
(m would normally be equal to n-1)

You seem to be arguing #2 will be the winner, and you may be right, but you're not really completely right because you can't predict the incredibly complex way things evolve when it comes to technology and humans.
I hear this kind of thing all the time, and I'm not mocking anyone out, but many people think they can predict the future they don't realize that is really what they are trying to do. Too add to that, if something in the future that they predicted does actually come to pass, they think they were 'right'. By 'right' here, they think they examined all the possibilities and came up with the idea that their prediction was the only possibility, when there are a host of other possibilities. So they get a false sense of confidence in their ability to predict things.
There are some things we have to be able to predict, like when driving a car, but they are much more temporal. Trying to predict a horse race is also hard to do.

This turned out to be quite interesting, but I think we've gone full course with the discussion about this. On to something else now...

There's many metric tons of devices out there and still being sold with the micro connector. I hate the micro connector.

But if I apply some logic here, if the A16 phone had a micro connector, in this case, no new cable or charger would have been needed, but now the old stuff becomes e-waste.

I agree this is a USB A (larger connector) to USB micro (smaller connector, the "B" type micro, the "A" type micro is more rectangular).
This would be using the USB 2.0 standard.
The larger USB micro B type uses the protocol USB 3.0 standard. This is much larger so easy to tell the difference.

I agree this is a USB C to USB C (the smaller, more common C connector).

There is also a larger USB C connector not shown in any of the pics, but it's very odd looking and very different than the more common C connector.

I highly recommend looking up the different types of USB connectors on the web. Do a google search.

USB-C to USB-C cables have the same connector on both ends, the plug if you will. Devices have the mating socket (call it the receptacle). There are no cables with a USB-C plug on one end and a USB-C receptacle on the other – USB extension cables are not allowed by the standard.
