I'm decent with soldering, my experience has mostly been with testing/replacing diodes, capacitors (electrolytic), resitors, and some transistors (that blow commonly in like Dell and Benq LCDs).
My iron is a Weller WES51 that works great for these size components. I want to learn more about board level stuff, but don't have money/time for school, so I teach myself (and I'm not that great of a teacher either)... so any help you give is gonna sink in
