Hello, everyone.

I am completely new to this type of repair so be easy. Lol

I have a Burndy crimping tool and and I was doing some maintenance on it and hooked up the battery to the terminals via alligator clips to check if they were working properly and got them crossed. The tool works with the battery in but it does not shut off. Just keeps running.

i took a look at the circuit board and noticed that some pad look like they got burned off or something? I don’t really know if that’s what it is or not.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get this working right again? What materials I would need? Tools? Etc

I appreciate all the help and input.

pic for reference.

IMG_0135.jpegI can get a better picture and a picture of the backside tonight when I get home from work.

This is my first time looking at a PCB so forgive my ignorance. What is U1?

picture is blurry but there seem to be crater in U1 above pin2. if true that would be hallmark of emergency exhaust for magic smoke

Is it just the u1 that got damaged?
Can't say. As I said, some ICs that get destroyed by reverse voltage don't show external signs. The only way to tell for certain is to replace the obviously bad ICs and proceed from there. If the device still doesn't work, there are more problems to be tracked down.

the pictures are still unreadable. to be of any use one must clearly see the labels on all parts.
U1 is definitely damaged but it may not be the only victim. the package is flavor of D2PACK.... looks like TO-263-5-2. but also pins 4 and 5 are shorted permanently.
what i seem to recognize looks like "ADIR???3" os similar.

based on function and unique package my best guess is that this may be an Infineon part AUIR3313S

btw, C2 also looks tanned...

I did some research on the and it is the AUIR3313S. I found some and it will be shipped to me in a week or so. I’ll try to take better pictures with better lighting/camera. Gotta watch a crash course on YouTube so I can better understand what’s going on. Lol

I appreciate everyone’s help!
