That is interesting, disgusting, and frightening, all at the same time. Putting aside all but the interesting, here's a quote from the first article: "...it is unsurprising that local prey abundance frequently appears to be the basis for facultative aggregating behavior by otherwise non-social species...."

The author was writing of spiders of course, but it makes me think of homo sapiens. I wonder what would happen if all the "prey abundance" went away?

I wasnt aware they can entomb a whole facility like that.
I found it when googling various terms together with the word spider.

There's restaurant on a river I like. Outside they have a light pole over the water that attracts bugs in the summer. Since a lot of bugs end up in the water below, the water teems with fish enjoying the endless buffet. Remove the bugs and the spiders and the fish will look elsewhere.
