Ths circuit shows the electret microphone as I have observed them. Often they are also shown with a high value resistor internally across the electret element, gate to source. Showing a ground connection symbol instead of a common line may confuse some folks.

Aside from reducing the DC level on the signal conductor, what other benefit is provided by the change shown?? It does not remove the DC level, so an isolation capacitor is still required. It also adds a third conductor to the microphone connection.
Si I am asking about what benefit is added.
