Consider also another circuit with one 12 volt battery and two resistors in series, 2 ohms and 10 ohms. By definition the current in each will be the same. By ohms law the voltage on the 2 ohm resistor will be 2 volts and the voltage on the ten ohm resistor will be 10 volts. (Note that this also satisfies Kerchoves voltage law.) The power dissipated in the 2 ohm resistor will be two watts, and ten watts will be dissipated in the ten ohm resistor. And the battery will be delivering 12 watts.
