What is the difference between an online inverter and an offline inverter?

 

What type of "inverter" are you referring to?

 

A commercial UPS inverter. Saw it in an ad.

online inverter is designed to 'feed' into existing commercial power grids. offline inverters use batteries and do not have to be connected to the grid, but can be with precautions.

 

@Kermit2 Is feeding into grid like "selling" power to the electric companies or something like that.

 

yes, if yourhouse is using less power than your system generates the meter turns backwards. Selling that power fepends on local/state laws. not everone gets money for ptoducing excess power

be aware. online inverters go OFF if the grid goes down. you will be cold and in the dark like everyone else if the power goes off.

depends on manf. and design, but most units are very efficient. 93% and up
