Hi.
Is it possible to install a browser to a 'smart' TV as suggested by a clerk at a store ? Or do some have it built-in ?

The point is to watch (foreign) real-time broadcast TV programming streamed? from their internet sites. Not Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon, Youtube, Roku...
For a TV that is ethernet-wired to an internet cable modem and does work with the above. Is there a gadget that allows/implements it ?

In my compfuser I can tune to RT, BBC, France, NHK... but do not want my laptop involved.

My Samsung Smart TV has a browser ( I use Google). I also has attached a Logitech wireless keyboard to it as the hunt and peck on-screen keyboard is slow. Works just like my desk top PC. It is wireless from my router as is my desk top. I do not have cable TV.

I had to add nothing, except the keyboard that was optional.

I keep a spare Linux box attached to my TV via an HDMI port. Add a wireless mouse, keyboard, and WiFi dongle, and you can stream/do anything on your TV that you can do on your PC.

ATSC 3.0 is scheduled to enhance broadcast antenna TV. However it is probably a year or so away. ... not certain what improvements are included. ... Looks like a new digital converter will be required.

In my experience, it is a very poor substitute for a laptop or PC with internet, but if you are really desperate and have unlimited time and patience, it can do the job. Samsung keyboard helps, but the internet experience is still frustrating IMHO.

Thanks.
This Vizio M470SV TV has a pre-loaded set of the mentioned on-demand 'streamers' 'VIA' -Vizio internet applications- but cannot discern in its manual choosing a browser. Can delete them, add them, but no web browsing...

Hi

The VIA apps are designed by Vizio for use with their TV.
I read the manual for your TV. It doesn't look like you can add a third party app (non-vizio VIA app, like Chrome).
If your TV is connected to the internet, you can add the newest apps from the Vizio widget gallery.
