We are having issues integrating a digital counter that should count how may times diode D7 lights up.

Not pictured in the circuit is a push switch after the voltage source V1, and the objective is to count how many times that switch is pressed.

A Jk flip flop basic circuit is used. its the small circuit on top of the main circuit we aren't sure where the problem is?

How do you keep counts with only one flip flop?

 

should we add more flip flops for a counter, do you have a suggestion

 

Depends on what you are trying to do. A 4 bits binary counter requires 4 flip-flops

Nowhere do you say what is not working as you expect. Hard to way where the problem is if we don't know what the problem is.

The circuit uses the 4 diodes D1 --> D4 to display the state of charge of the 9V battery ( 0%, 25%, 50%...etc). there is a push switch that isn't present in the circuit but should be located right after V1.

The purpose of Diode D7 is to light up anytime the circuit is closed.

What we want to implement is a digital counter that keeps track of how many times the push switch is pressed (i.e. how many times D7 lights up).

we know that using one JK is probably wrong, but are quite novice in the electronics field. we are having trouble figuring what is required

 

What do you do with the counts? And how long are you planning on counting? Look up decade counter IC

 

Any interest in doing this in one chip ? The whole design ? Can you code or does it have
to be a codeless design. Lastly once you have the count do you want to display it, if so
on what, 7 segment LED or LCD or to a terminal session ?
