Hi. I have a drill press with a single-phase induction motor. Changing the belt is a PITA so I thought I could levea the belts at low rpm and high torque and use a VFD to increase a bit the RPM when it's needed.

What do you think?

Thank you. Best regards

There are 1ph VFD's but they never recieved popularity, they had the issue of dropping out of run under load or low RPM.
One option, is to fit a 3ph motor and use the suitable sized 3ph VFD, on a 1ph supply .

Thanks for your answer.

Low RPM won´t be a problem since the idea it is to increase the RPM. But under load could be a problen

CAUTION!!! The power demand tends to rise rapidly as the voltage rises along with the frequency to boost the RPM.
With induction motors you may not be able to get more power. IT MAY NOT WORK!!!
