I'm confused about (JST?)connector sizes

Sometime back I bought a Li-ion charger which came with six small two pin female sockets mounted on a board. A search found what turned out to be a usable male plug which I am sure was called JST. Today I got a meter which has sockets which look much like the earlier ones except these have what is clearly wider spacing. After much head scratching I realized that the meter pins are the same distance apart as a standard DIP. What do I buy to get two pin female sockets in this size?
Thanks.

You need to measure the pitch, the number of interfaces and interface shape, the overall size of the connector, the appearance. If there is a model, look for an agent or the original factory to buy, if there is no model, you can only enter the brand's official website to find the information you can provide.

The search for a matching connector can be arduous. There are a lot of them. JST is one company (http://www.jst.com/index.html) and its style of connector is often called a JST connector without knowing that it is actually made by JST. Molex and TE Connectivity are two other companies. Go to DigiKey.com and search on "connector." Then climb that tree and see how many choices there are.

A picture plus dimensions will help, but there is still plenty of legwork to do.

Well, I'm pretty sure it is this one JST XH2.54 2 Pin Connector Plug. The key seems to be the 2.54 which is, apparently, the pin spacing.

Thanks for your help.

???? 2.54 mm (0.1" ) used to be extremely common -- perhaps the most common worldwide until things got smaller. All of the major US manufacturers still make that size.

Is there some reason you cannot post a picture?

I have had problems with matching JST connectors myself. I think they come in both 2mm and 2.54mm which are hard to distinguish by sight.

Aw, come on man. 2.54 v. 2.0 mm? What are you, a retired carpenter? JST also offers 2.50 mm vs. 2.54 mm. Now, THAT requires a good eye. ;)

Post a pic with a ruler or for that matter, a standard DIP IC oriented in the same way, With a known dimension in the pic, diminsions can be obtained. Some of us will likely recognize the connector.
