Then there is a 556, 2X 555, output can drive a relay, timing 5.000 uF & 1 meg. pot & 200uF & 1 meg pot .
C's low leakage > 10 meg.. I like a fixed R in series with a 100 k pot. You will get some static but it has worked for me several times & up to 3 hours.

 

Of course there are other ways to get great timing. Just take a pulse off the 60Hz AC mains.

 

With a 32 kHz crystal, The CD4060 output is 2 Hz.
