I changed out king pins ONCE. It was on a '70 International Harvester Travelall. A great 2 wheel drive truck.
I was trying to loosen the king pin nut and the racket catch inside the racket broke. My pulling hand slammed into a bolt and cotter pin assembly on a supporting structure.
The un-bent portion of the cotter pin punctured the top side of my thumb, a few mm from the top of the nail. About 1/4 in. deep and bled like crazy. Brought tears.
About a week later......complete nail came off. That was several decades ago. It's tried to grow back, but until recent years, it always looked alien.
Have always bent both sides of cotter pins since.
Oh....the weather is fair to middlin.
