I just got back from the fence post job.:)
How wet was it?o_O
It was so wet that I dug the first hole 2 inches too deep and, by the time I got back with a tape measure, there was water in the bottom of the hole.

This was either very lucky or very good estimating of how fast the water drains after a LOT of rain.
So, job's done, I'm drenched with sweat. My air conditioner sure feels good! :p
And the weather guesser says the rain will resume tonight.
Not my problem. The job is done.;)

How could you doubt my work? :(

The only thing the rain is going to do is help pack the sand around the post.
Forgive me, fencemaster, for I have sinned by doubting your divine abilities... seriously now, dude, I know nothing about florida's ground, especially where you are. If I were to try place a fence down here I know I'd have to dig at least three feet down to get a firm grasp on the post, and wet soil wouldn't help... how deep did you go? I know nothing about Florida's ground,
Florida is basically a sand bar over a limestone substrata. Digging is very easy...for a while. Three feet down for a fence post costs about 10 minutes, unless you hit tree roots. Right exactly here, there is a layer of oyster shells and muck at 7 feet which interfered with me hosing a 4 inch pipe down 10 feet so it would hold a street light at 20 feet up...so I cut the pipe off at 7 feet and added 160 pounds of concrete. Yes, you can, "hose" a shallow well here. Deep and mysterious is the Floridan Aquifer. That part is a limestone layer with lots of holes and channels carrying fresh water that might have been percolating through for a million years. I have seen movies of scuba divers in the Floridan Aquifer, and they were swimming past the end of a pipe which represented the bottom of some person's lawn sprinkler pump. You don't dig through the limestone layer with a garden hose!

Wow... that sounds very similar to the properties of Yucatán's peninsula ground... though I'm not really that surprised, they are closer to each other than most people realize... did you know that you and I are roughly at the same latitude?

You are at 25.7 north and I'm at 28 north latitude. About 160 miles difference if my calculator is working today. There are a lot more than 160 miles of north and south, just inside the state of Florida. Problem is, I don't like boats, so I'm not going to visit you, even if you are a good cook.

You could always drive (I've done it before, all the way down to Miami)... or fly...
And if neither work for you... I have a guaranteed 30 minute delivery on all orders Emoji Smiley-12.png

Holy crap I didn't realize this thread was still going. Pardon me if I don't go back and read the last 340 posts.

Soggy as a well diggers boots, but below 90F for several days and has not rained significantly for 2 days. And that's what I was waiting for to do the fence post job.;)

I needed 36 inches of, "down" and the water table is at 37 inches...today. That job waited for 29 days because you can't dig a hole in water. Well...I can't dig a hole in water. Some of you are far more imaginative than I.:D
