Third excellent day in a row here! 70's and sunny Monday and Tuesday...still dark today, but looks to be partly cloudy. I did a thorough spring cleaning in my chick's' coop. (Delete whichever apostrophe you think is appropriate.)

Daylight now...mostly cloudy. :(

Spring camping trip. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. The weather was awesome. That is until the last day, when it rained with biblical intensity.DSC01025.JPG DSC01027.JPG

A wasted nice day for me at the house watching kids while the women go where women go for fun.
Spend most of the day cleaning the shop, on the computer hacking and watching them play on the security cam.

image.jpg Well, despite all signs to the contrary, warm weather has come to Boston. There are 20-30 foot snow piles in the park beside the office and they're melting too! Ready for summer...

Snow for Mother's Day. About a foot of heavy, wet snow and hail at the house last night. Lost power about 8:30pm and it still wasn't back on when we left about noon. Temperature was 31°F. There was one tree down in the lines but that wasn't there when I came home last night about 10pm. Hopefully they will get power back on today. Very nice down in Colorado Springs -- most of the snow has melted and it is pleasantly cool outside.

I was woken up this morning about 6:15 by thunder, and there was one fierce rain storm ensuing. First time I can remember being woken up by thunder in a long time; I'm a very deep sleeper. Went back to sleep. 5 minutes later, woken up by the loud amber alert thing on my phone; ignored it and tried to go back to sleep. Lightning crashed right outside my window, woke up the kids who started crying. Lighting crashed down the street and the transformer exploded, no more power. No going back to sleep now, so i checked my phone; it was a tornado alert. It said "serious warning! Take cover now!" I listened for the sounds of a tornado and didn't hear any. The kids quieted down and then the rain instantly stopped. There was a low rumbling like the tail end of a thunder clap, that never went away. I hurried everybody in the master bedroom closet which is the most insulated room of the house, and we waited. Never heard anything else. Checked dopller radar on my phone, storm had passed. I let everybody out of the closet and my wife says she never heard any rumbling and it was probably just in my head (entirely likely as I have a rabid phobia of tornadoes stemming from a near death experience as a child). But I will drive around later and see if there is any evidence of tornado damage.

Lots of rain here for weeks and weeks.

"We need the rain" has become a mem here.

No, we don't. not any more. The lakes are overflowing.

Power company just now restored power. They said the transformer took a hit and blew a disconnect somewhere upstream. They repaired the disconnect and power came back. but they said any time this happens, they must replace the transformer. They don't have time right now as there were several storm-related power incidents last night and much of the area is still without power. But some time next week they will be back to replace the transformer. Then power will be out for a whole day.

I'm glad I have a few days to prepare because I found out that my generator that I haven't started in 5 years doesn't run! Go figure! At least I'll have a chance to rebuild the carb before they come back.

At least you got one; most wouldn't even have the opportunity. They usually sell out during times like this.

Good luck,

Do you use natural gas or gasoline?
