How to slow down a electric motor

Thanks just what I am wanting , trouble is if they are from China I may not get it untill quite a few weeks time , I could really do with making one , have lots of electronic parts , would anyone have a schematic of this type of controler ! .

Yes that would work , allthough the motor is quite loud now on full speed ! .

I suppose you could use both techniques depending on the control you need. The controller will work very well down to - and here's a wild guess - 20% of full speed. If you need fine tuning below that level, you could employ a damper.

I used a standard vacuum cleaner to power a vacuum table on a CNC where effectively the airflow is completely blocked (if you get a good seal) and the motor doesn't seem to mind at all - no overheating. The load on the motor is lower in this condition than if it is pumping lots of air as evidenced by the motor speeding up when the pipe is blocked.
