Would have been nice to have known this sooner. Read what Analog Kid has suggested. You will need enough current to drive the coil thus all the reference to the use of a MOSFET.

I did something similar. If you can work with about 2HZ, this may work for you. A flashing LED pulses the mosfet on. The 47K makes the LED flash but
hardly viewable.
