How to connect an old computer to the internet?

You don't have an OS yet but you are asking about getting connected to the internet???

Talk about putting the cart before the horse. ;)
I wondered about that. Early on based on a 5 MHz processor which was mentioned I assumed a very early DOS type design which would pre date an early 286 AT type system, Intel 80286 processors running at 6 and maybe 8 MHz. The early 286 systems used a 24 bit address bus limiting memory to something like 16 MB. Early systems bring to mind the Commodore VIC 20 or the early APPLE II systems, each with their own operating syatem.

I really don't see a 5 MHz CPU supporting the sort of Internet connectivity being discussed? I just assumed a basic system communicating with another remote computer over a dial up network peer to peer rather than the world wide web and using today's modems. Granted this is not at all my forte but I remember the basics and compared the capabilities of a early DOS type OS like Windows 3.1.
