cd drive has failed, trying to start but it wants me to hit f1 but keyboard is inoperable. how can i get past this?

And once it is operating, how do i delete the cd drive from the startup??

Normally during start at the Dell splash screen you would be tapping the F2 key which should get you into the BIOS. Any idea why it is not allowing you to use the keyboard? In the boot order what was set as the first boot device?

Ron, I'm 88 and not a geek. can handle the mechanics but I have no idea where to find boot order. i looked at settings,,,,

 

Well at 70 I am a little behind you. The boot order would be in the BIOS but less a working knowledge of these things I really think we should avoid that since unless one knows their way around bad things can happen. If the system is by chance under warranty I would suggest calling Dell.
