Your externally posted material is inaccessible. I don't think your quest has much chance of success since the firmware is probably locked down so you won't be able to copy it in case you brick the device while fooling around with trying to program it.

Your URL is to a zip file which I will certainly not install on my computer. Give us a URL to the hardware you are discussing so we can see what it is. Then we may be able to answer your questions.

"Help understanding" what?
You need a better title than that. It helps readers if the thread title provides some information on the contents of the thread.
What is this obscure "device"?

He said it was an ASIC used as a bitcoin miner. ASICS are normally programmed from an 8-pin serial flash device.

That is probably only possible with the original software that created the schematic files. The ".c" should not require conversion to ".pdf" format. Do you have a compiler for the ".c" files?

ASICs usually don't require programming at all and, if they do, it will be however the designer of the ASIC chose to program them. If it's an FPGA (which is NOT an ASIC), then configuration via a serial flash device is a common choice.

You're right, I did conflate the two technologies. The TS called it an ASIC, perhaps making the same mistake that I did. We really don't know what he is working with. I've never made a bitcoin miner and I have a hard time believing that anyone would consider making a masked programmed part for that purpose. The FPGA path would have entailed far less risk and capital.

Original link to asker`s (ca2285538) file leads to suspicious server what multiple times redirects (virus beeper is blinking red, red, red) while ends on file download what loads, loads, loads and in 5 minutes loads nor even the one bite. I am more than sure its a virus and only thanks my system is Linux it cannot be harmed so easy.

the program used to control, run the device, process the results called it ASIC it could be FPGA
