Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone here could assist me in repairing my mobile phone. I suddenly stopped recently forcing me to buy a new one. I have lots of data I want and I'd rather keep the phone tbh. I have repaired lights of phones and screens but it's easy when you know what's wrong.
I'm not sure what is wrong on this one. If I press the power button it vibrates as normal as if to start and power up but I get no screen. Then if I hold the power button long enough it will power off I assume.
Any help appreciated :) where to start ...
Thanks all.

Welcome to AAC!

It's probably a lost cause. You'd be better off just trying to get your data. Does the phone have removable media? Data in the on-board media might be recoverable by a data recovery company.

Yes , I have the memory card out and that's fine. It's just a really nice android phone and it's not that old. But rather than bin it I want to repair it. I have removed the back which was a challenge as it's glass but can't see anything obvious. It's a redmi note 8.

Smartphones are throwaway because paying for a repair will likely cost more than just getting a new phone.

Chances of an end user repair are low unless it's something obvious. Once you start replacing things, you need to be able to exercise all circuitry to ensure that you repaired the problem and didn't break something in the process. Only approved repair businesses are likely to have access to the required tools, tests, and, potentially, proprietary parts.

Only a year old. Not really a trade in value as it doesn't work correctly. But it's obviously working when I turn it on. It may be the screen has died or some other small part causing an issue. Don't really want to buy parts willy nilly in the hope though.

Have you tried getting a replacement under warranty (sometimes possible, even after one year), or Consumer Rights legislation?

Mobile phones are repairable at the board level but not usually by a casual technician. It takes knowledge of the particular phone, access to replacement parts (sometimes only possible from other, dead examples of the same model), and SMD rework equipment.

It is very likely that your phone has a simple, known problem. But actually fixing it is probably outside your abilities because of the above. I would suggest you search for your particular phone and it’s particular problem. You might find some help to do it yourself, or more likely a local company that can do it for an affordable price.

This is all to say that mobile phone repair is not a generic sort of repair activity. It requires a specialist. Even a very skilled electronics technician who otherwise can troubleshoot and repair arbitrary equipment will struggle and fail with something so variable, specialized, and highly integrated as a smart phone.
