grounding for generator?

We do have generators for construction sites. My question is "should we ground the generators for safety reasons?" as I think when the generator is on "float" the leakage current cannot go back to its source and it is safer.
Appreciate your explanation and clarification.

Let me say that in a longer way: If YOU ground it, everybody will know it's grounded and damaged cables will blow a fuse. If you leave it ungrounded, your crew will only find out a cable got damaged after it hurts somebody.

A welder has no ground, but its cables are short enough to be aware of at all times. A construction site is too big and too busy for anyone to know every wire is not damaged by yesterdays work crew.
