Gold And More Gold

I prefer bars myself. Coins are much more likely to be counterfeit, almost all you see on TV clearly state they are plated.

The real moral of the story is cut the bar in half and assess the middle for purity.

BTW, titanium might as well be considered a precious metal, that stuff is expensive.

There Is only so much solid gold bars and coins 99% pure.
Then they start selling paper certifcates, in the rush for
security against stocks people are buying in haste.Watch out
for the only BUBBLE left. On the first day of sell offs gold
went down four points.Your broker will remind you of that
if a sell off cost you.The paper is just paper it would take
a few seconds to pop the bubble. Tell me where the safety
is in your Investment ,If there Is such a thing.
I would agree that it is feasible that profit takers could very well rape mass commodity purchasers. Actually, in view of recent US economic activity, it's rather likely.

Planing on going Bandito are we? Bartering is always going to be around, and while I believe in being armed, I would rather trade for my needs. Historically I think you would have a hard time finding a time/place where gold has not been valued. Besides jewelry it was one of the first metals (copper being the other) that was used for coins.
Quite the opposite. When confronted by the Federales(ju know, the mountain police?) being armed is just the thing to induce a bartering situation, far preferable a smash and grab.

Hasn't it been quoted here that "an armed society is a polite society?"

Just sayin ;)

You are right, I just work in 100% pure gold every day. The 20th century version of a electronic gold smith. I'm not a believer in paper, it is a promise, nothing more. If society collapses all bets are off. A Bernard Madoff would have trouble scamming people if the product was tangible, but with paper it was easy.

It has, and I was the one that quoted it, but preferring to be armed with nothing else leaves very few options. I prefer buying my merchandise.

If doomsday comes land will not be that valuable, the odds are you will have to move around (until you can find some place to settle). In that scenario portable wealth is key. Land is only valuable if it supports you and generates food (and hopefully income).

I also referred to the old west days. Bandito's usually minded their manners in most towns, because the whole town was armed. If they had a reputation for being a bandito they had to mind their manners even more, because the locals were ready for trouble. Usually they had roots in a local community, and family. These guys might kill another man without blinking, but Mom was another story.

If society collapses, gold is going to hold a whole lot of value, since there probably be a much greater demand for survival type goods. Gold can't feed your family, unless somebody is willing to trade for it. You really couldn't use it for much of anything else, nor would there be a whole lot of people who could. You'd likely have to transport it to another country, because most of this one will have the same basic survive needs to tend to, and it's pretty heavy to carry around. Think I'd invest in setting up a still. Always a demand for alcohol, and not just to have a good time with either. Pretty good antiseptic, cures many ailments. Useful for fuel. Good solvent for cleaning, and sterilizing. An aphrodisiac, for breeding purposes (women at the bar, always look much better, after a few shots, also much more willing to please). Not as likely to get beaten or robbed of your still, takes a little while to run off a batch.

We are on focus to the gold bubble, what are your predictors for that to happen.
China has a safe place for all the weight,in the U.S. I doubt that any one Is sure
of what they have or any plan.It would take years to trace what you have. You
would not anything In a true bubble. No one would answer your phone call.

Again, history argues against. Gold has always been valuable, though less so than now. Unless we regress to level of cavemen (wait, they valued jewelry too!) golds will retain a lot of value. Those who have a surplus will accept gold. It isn't rational, but it is human.

Human kind sells a lot of bogus paper, and Its hard to trace
If something go wrong. The solid gold may be off shore, and
paper Is worth nothing thing. No body has offered any factors
to look for, does the charts tract food, oil, conflict has always
been a factor. They say the conflicts are passing any previous
wars.So why did gold sell off for one day.I think that wiill be the
excuse from your broker that you were warned.Remember your
broker and brokerage houses will make big profit going up or down
(to safe to lose, the life of the broker). Private buyers could be
the trigger that make the market go up or down.Watch for a big
investment in gold, gold has gone up fast when cash is needed
where will some investors go.Does anyone follow gold to know what
percentage is where and how large of a movement each day.
Some one must have an interest in gold, what about the U.K. is
gold the same price, who know about exchange rate.

LW, how many people here do you think have gold certs? Not me, I doubt you will find anyone who admits to it. Stocks are a different issue, I have some of those.

I also have a very small hand full of gold. If I was halfway interested in buying gold it would be the real deal, not paper.

Just reading some articles on gold, the gold buyer gets a
built in 10 to 20% fee and they tell you to shop around.
Anyone selling anything gold to jewerly, pawn stores are
dealers. So most people lose qiute a bit of there gold value
if they sell could be near 50% ,there is no acurate way to
know how your stuff is being valued.People selling there
gold at haft price to greedy dealers would drive up demand
and then drop.

For what's it's worth ... back in 1978/1979, I cashed my U.S. Government check at the local Italian Bank in Southern Italy ... I then paid my apartment rent of 200,000 lire after cashing the check with two 100,000 lire notes.

A couple of weeks later, my landlord informed me I had given him counterfit lire notes. He then said not to worry as he passed them on to someone else. :D

I checked out the ads for $50.00 24kt clad coins for special $19.95
only 5 per customer. The ad says 24 kt .14 miligrams clad coins.
They are worth a dollar in gold, so what they want is your credit
card number to bill you shipping and handling on each of the 5 coins.
Plus the $19.95 for each coin. Thats $100.00 for $5.00 worth of
coins-plus shipping and handling on each coin.Maybe a total of $150.00
for $5.00.

I smiled when I saw this ad, making out that a high gold price is a good reason to invest. These are 22 carat and £255 so not a total rip off.

There was a case in Dallas around 30 years ago, a couple of thugs attacked an old man with gold teeth. They were trying to beat them out of his jaw with a rock. The main reason I remember is they were quoted as saying if he swallowed them they would still get them, as they were threatening him with knives. I really hope they were caught.
